Our Junior Program

Why choose fencing for your child?

Fencing is a fantastic community-focused activity for kids, balancing communal teamwork and collaborative learning with the discipline of an individual martial sport. At our club, we've tailored our Junior program to develop essential mental and physical skills, providing an active experience that encourages children to support each other, share their victories and overcome challenges together.

Our Junior Program focuses on...

Physical development and discipline

Our Junior sessions focus on foundational development of coordination, balance, and gross and fine motor skills for kids. Young kids learn to be aware of their own movements and abilities through the lens of fencing, exploring new ways to achieve the physical objectives of the sport. Learning how to handle a sabre also provides a new dimension to their motor skills!

Mental flexibility and strategic thinking

Given the personal nature of the sport, fencing is an incredibly dynamic sport and requires kids to apply both their understanding of themselves and their understanding of opponents. In such a fast-paced sport, kids learn to adapt their personal styles to opponent's strengths and weaknesses, requiring mental flexibility, strategy and a strong trust of their own intuition.

Healthy adversity and respect

As a martial sport, fencing has a contest aspect that is intimate and personal between two opposing fencers. We are very careful in navigating bouting between your child and their peers, encouraging both mental fortitude as well as a deep respect between peers as they help each other improve and put their learnings to the test.
